Drill PressIf you need a heavy-duty drill press with extra "reach," consider General International's new 75-260 M1. It has all the features you'd expect from a 17-in. drill press, plus the added benefit of a 6-inch quill travel. That should come in handy for deep through-drilling applications or mortising.

The cast-iron head on this machine is mounted to a sturdy 3-1/8-inch steel column and sits on a  11-3/4-inch  x 19-5/8-inch cast-iron base. The large 14 x 14-inch cast-iron table tilts 45 degrees left or right, can be quickly swiveled away for off-table drilling and has four slots for securing a variety of clamps or jigs. Rack-and-pinion gears control the table height adjustment, and all swivel or pivot points are secured with sturdy metal locking levers.

The 75-260 M1 features a 1HP totally enclosed fan-cooled motor, a positive depth stop, 3/4-inch capacity chuck, a large front-mounted paddle style stop switch and an adjustable flip up, see-through chuck guard for added safety. The unit is equipped with cast-iron pulleys for smooth, vibration-free operation. By simply changing the belt positions on the pulleys, it offers 12 possible speed selections from 255 to 2,750 RPM, to cover both your metal- and wood-drilling applications. Two lasers, mounted on the column, help you pinpoint those drilling locations.

The General International 75-260M1 is currently retailing for $699.99, with pricing valid until August 31.
